Dr. Marilyn Comrie OBE is a multi award-winning entrepreneur, green tech innovator, and chemistry graduate who believes passionately in contributing to a global just energy transition that can lift millions out of poverty, symbolised by the creation of Verciti, an immersive tech platform to scale up volume delivery of hydrogen skills training. This is needed to accelerate the deployment and viability of renewable energy infrastructure projects, especially in emerging economies, through the rapid upskilling, reskilling and new skilling of a local workforce.

 

Her story is a testimony to the power of a deep calling and vision – a dream catalysed by purpose and persevering through the toughest of barriers. These values catapulted her into a woman on a mission, using science as a cornerstone for addressing our planet's direst challenges.

As the director of STEM futurists at The Blair Project and Verciti, she is spearheading their collective leap into an era where combating climate change isn’t an option but a necessity driven by innovation and entrepreneurship.

Drawing strength from her upbringing, as the middle child of Jamaican immigrants, she embraced the lessons of resolve and limitless self-belief inculcated by her hardworking parents. As a young girl, moved by a documentary on the plight of an African tribe whose way of life was being threatened by climate change and globalisation, she pledged herself to science – a vessel she would use to forge solutions to this planet's most daunting challenges. She set forth into this mission and purpose, with a knowing that the only permission needed to change the world was from within – a belief her mother instilled within her.

 

Since being honoured with an OBE by Her Majesty The Queen in 2009 for services to women's enterprise, her journey has not slowed. Now, pivoting towards developing nations, she is championing sustainable innovation and cross-cultural collaboration with emerging economies like South Africa – a call to action that she extends to companies and individuals striving to make a difference through ventures like The Exporter Diaries.
